Guernsey Short Break
Get a flavour of Guernsey and Sark with this programme. Follow small lanes to hidden coves and enjoy the idyllic scenery. Step back in time during a day trip to Sark.
Day One - St Peter Port
You are met on arrival by your guide and brought to the hotel for assisted check-in, followed by an information meeting.
You will depart on a guided walking tour of St Peter Port. Guernsey's capital is located on the east coast of the island and it is widely considered to be the Channel Islands' most beautiful town. The afternoon will end with a tour of Candie Gardens, the award winning, restored Victorian gardens with splendid views across St Peter Port harbour. Candie Gardens offer a rare example of a late 19th Century public flower garden and are home to the oldest known heated glass-houses in the British Isles, which date back to the late 18th Century.
Day Two - Full Day Tour
Enjoy a full day tour that will follow the beautiful Guernsey coastline, passing through Val de Terre, the former garrison of Fort George and Sausmarez Manor. The tour will then continue along the west coast of the Island taking in its many picturesque beaches such as Perelle Bay, Vazon Bay and Cobo Bay. You will visit the Little Chapel, which is thought to be the smallest chapel in the world. It is beautifully decorated with seashells, pebbles and colourful pieces of broken china. The tour will also stop at Dolmen Dehus, giving you the opportunity to explore Guernsey’s second largest Neolithic tomb, and at St Martin’s Church, which is well known for its Neolithic statue-menhir thought to date from approximately 2500-1800BC.
Day Three - Sark
Sark is the smallest of the four main Channel Islands and has a well-earned reputation for its unique history, “olde worlde” charm and tranquil atmosphere. As there are no motor vehicles on the Island except for tractors, you will explore everything that Sark has to offer by horse and carriage. In addition to the selection of quaint shops and cafes to be found in the Island’s main village, you will discover beautiful scenery with an abundance of wildflowers and sea birds, as well as the Island’s 22 miles of stunning coastline and dramatic cliffs, concealing picturesque inlets and secluded bays. The group will visit La Seigneurie Gardens, some of the finest formal gardens in the Channel Islands. Lying in the grounds of the official home of the Seigneur, the gardens feature a diverse range of flora and have been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society. Parts of the gardens are thought to date back as far as the 6th Century, with the main house having been originally constructed in 1675 and acting as testament to Sark’s unusual heritage.
Day Four - Departure
You can enjoy some time at leisure before the group is transferred to the harbour or airport for departure. Time allowing, why not take an optional ½ day trip to Herm before you leave?
